❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about using ClinicalWriterAI.
What is ClinicalWriterAI?
ClinicalWriterAI transforms your everyday observations into professional medical documentation. You write (or dictate) what you observed in your own words, in any language, and the tool rewrites it as structured clinical documentation using precise medical terminology.
Is it only for nurses?
Not at all! ClinicalWriterAI is built for every professional who writes chart notes: nurses, PSWs, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, respiratory therapists, dietitians, pharmacists, midwives, paramedics, retirement home staff and more. With custom templates, each specialty creates its own note formats adapted to its practice — describe your structure once, and the tool follows it.
How do I transfer the result into my charting software?
Simple and universal: the Copy button. Your note is also saved in your History, which follows your account on every device — dictate on your phone in the corridor, then open clinicalwriterai.ca on the unit workstation, log in, open History, copy your note and paste it into your official charting software. You then review it, add patient identifiers INSIDE the official system only, and sign. This works with every charting system in Canada. With the Chrome extension, you can even rewrite text directly beside a web-based charting page.
Which documentation formats are supported?
Four built-in formats: SOAP (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan), DAR (Data, Action, Response), SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation), and General Medicalization — professional medical language without a specific structure. Pro members can also create unlimited custom templates for their own formats, such as an emergency triage assessment or a shift handover note.
Can I write in French or another language?
Yes. Write or dictate in English, French, Spanish, Arabic, or any other language — the input language is detected automatically. You choose the output language separately, so you can, for example, dictate in French and receive professional documentation in English, or keep the output in the same language as your input.
How does voice dictation work?
Click the Start button in the Speech Recognition panel and speak naturally. Say punctuation out loud: "period", "comma", "new line" in English, or « point », « virgule », « à la ligne » in French. Dictation uses your browser's built-in speech recognition and works best in Chrome and Edge. If your browser doesn't support it, you can always type normally.
What are Provincial Medical Standards?
In Settings, you can select your Canadian province or territory. The AI will then prefer terminology, units, and abbreviations consistent with documentation practices commonly used in your province's healthcare system.
Is my data safe? Where is it stored?
Your account and history are stored in a private database on our own Canadian hosting — not on a third-party app platform. Passwords are hashed, connections are encrypted, and your history is visible only to you. The text you submit is processed by Anthropic's Claude AI to perform the rewriting. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
Can I put patient names in my text?
No — please don't. ClinicalWriterAI is a writing aid, not a medical record system. Describe the situation without identifiers ("the patient", "the resident") and add names only afterwards, inside your official documentation system. You remain responsible for your professional confidentiality obligations.
Do I need to verify the output?
Always. The AI preserves the facts you provide and never invents findings, but you are the professional: review every rewrite for accuracy and completeness before adding it to any patient record. The output is a draft to save you time, not a final clinical judgment.
How do I create an account?
Registration requires an invite code provided by the site administrator. If you have a code, click Sign Up, fill in your details, and enter the code. If you'd like access, contact the administrator.
How do I install the Chrome extension?
ClinicalWriterAI is officially on the Chrome Web Store! Open this link: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ifplpbinmmjkdgiinjgcmbohhliklphf , click "Add to Chrome", then pin the icon. In the extension settings (gear icon), paste your personal access token — generate it on the site under Settings → Chrome Extension. You can then rewrite text from any page of your browser.
How do I install the mobile app?
On Android (Chrome): open the site, sign in, then tap "Install app" in the banner or in the ⋮ menu. On iPhone (Safari): open the site, tap the Share button (square with arrow), then "Add to Home Screen". The app icon appears on your home screen and opens full-screen like a native app.
What is my Search History and can I delete it?
Every rewrite is saved to your personal history so you can find past work. From the History page you can review entries, delete any single entry, or clear your entire history permanently.
Which browsers are supported?
The app works in all modern browsers on desktop and mobile. Voice dictation specifically requires Chrome or Edge; everything else works everywhere.
